Third Letter from the Editor

Updated: Sep 13

Welcome back Red Barons!

We survived our first week back on campus together. To those of you who are returning to CCC, I hope you had a successful week finding the grove again. To those of you who are new to college, I hope and pray that you are successful in finding that grove. Finding a solid daily pace is, in my opinion, tantamount to educational success.

I also hope that you all had a restful and satisfying summer break. I know that I did, despite some hiccups in my travel plans due to Tropical Storm Debbie. To all the Debbies on campus…I promise that I hold no ill will towards any of you! Nevertheless, I had a great summer camping with my family, seeing Niagara Falls up close and personal, working as a Sommelier at Heron Hill winery, hosting parties, dressing up for the Renaissance Festival, and enjoying quite a few backyard BBQs.

Now, however, I am ready to get back to the grind. I am ready and excited to be your chief-editor for The Crier Newspaper for the 2024-2025 school year.

But I need help. I need CCC to come to my rescue!

The Crier is looking for contributors and team members! All of you can contribute your thoughts and dreams to our newspaper. The more contributions The Crier gets, the more publications and blog posts we will get to enjoy! The more team members I have helping with editing and support, the easier the mission will be. Yes, it is a mission. It is a mission to inform, entertain, edify, empower, and inspire. Many of you will decide to sing, or act on stage, or muddle around with mathematical formulas, but I am hoping a few of you will decide to add your voice and talents to this prestigious institution we call The Crier. Okay, that is a touch dramatic, but this is an awesome opportunity to help lift the voices and showcase the talents of our fellow students.

I shook hands with quite a few people during the Club Information event this past Thursday afternoon. I was pleased to see the interest! I hope to see that same level of enthusiasm, or at least curiosity, when I finally gather this little fellowship of editors and contributors together in one place.

If you did not already know, I also produce a dedicated podcast for The Crier. In fact, the first episode of the semester is posted! I want to give you all a fair warning: I am no podcast making expert. I am not an influencer. I willingly, perhaps foolishly, put myself out there on the podcast in hopes that someone might benefit from it. So, my editing is subpar compared to the ones we listen to on Spotify. I apologize in advance for the earache I give my listeners! Nevertheless, I hope you will benefit from my efforts.

We have two main goals this semester:

1)      Publish 2-3 physical newspapers

2)      Weekly professor interviews on the Podcast.

If you want to help or contribute to those efforts, please contact me or the faculty advisor.

I hope everyone on campus has a great semester and school year!

This year’s personal Crier motto (or battle cry?):

Be Inspired! Be Inspiring!

With Gratitude,

Joshua Donescoss, Chief Editor
